Let’s Learn Together
If you want to know what my platform is, this picture sums it up nicely. They are not a political party. They are not an agenda. They are not a stepping stone to a higher office. They are not for clout, or power or bragging rights. They are my kids.
The difference is, I’m not just concerned about my children and my way of thinking. I’m concerned about all of our children and all parental points of view. This is not just campaign talk. I have a PROVEN history of caring deeply for children from all walks of life through my years of charity work. This runs deep.
Education is not a one size fits all scenario and no opinion is absolute. It needs to be collaborative, evolving and unbiased. There is a middle ground somewhere and I will find it.
Laura’s Guiding Principles
-Children first, not politics
-Fostering parent/teacher engagement to strengthen our children’s education
-Balancing the needs of taxpayers, faculty and students through fiscal conservatism
Frequently Asked Questions
The Answers You Need
What are my thoughts on CRT?
Critical Race Theory does not belong in our elementary and middle school. Our children are too young and have not developed the level of life experience and critical thinking abilities to process such an advanced theory.
Is there enough transparency in the curriculum at Swallow?
Curriculum transparency is extremely important for parents, the administration and the board. As parents we have every right to see, know and understand what our children are being taught.
As a parent of four children at Swallow, I have direct access to homework, online lessons and portals. I have also never been denied any access to curriculum when I ask. As a board member, I will help parents to understand where, when and how to gain access to curriculum and what to do if they have any concerns with their child’s curriculum.
As parents we are just as responsible for our childrens’ educations as the teachers.
What political party do you belong to?
I am a registered Democrat running for school board as a Parent. Not a Democrat.
I have turned down several offers from the party to send out free mailers and other literature with my name on them. I have also spent countless hours asking to be taken off any political websites.
For me, school board should not be about political agendas. It should be about the children.
What makes you qualified to serve on the Swallow School Board?
I am a mother of four, a business executive, a community leader with a servants heart for the betterment of children. I pride myself on having a level head with the ability to make decisions based on what is best for the greater good and not what serves my own personal views.
